Roses

The rose is one of the most recognisable and beloved flowers in the world. It seems we know it so well that it can no longer surprise us. Yet every time I begin a new rose, I am convinced of the opposite.

For me the beauty of a rose lies not only in its form but in its endless variety. No two roses are alike.

Some open freely and wide, as if catching every ray of light. Others stay more gathered, keeping a sense of quiet mystery. Each has its own rhythm, its own movement of petals, its own mood. That is what makes working on a rose so absorbing.

I love watching a flower slowly come into being. One by one the petals appear, each with its own curve, thickness and position. Gradually they gather into a single form — and at some moment the rose seems to come alive.

Working with colour brings me particular joy. I love complex, barely perceptible transitions of tone, when one colour dissolves almost imperceptibly into another. It is precisely these nuances that make a flower deeper, more natural and alive.

The rose is a flower one wants to return to again and again.

Each new piece is not a repetition of the last, but a search for new beauty.
